Specialised Logistics for Industrial Equipment

Industrial machinery — lathes, CNC machines, power presses, agricultural equipment, food processing plants — demands a logistics partner with project cargo experience. Standard courier or general freight services are simply not equipped for machinery that weighs several tonnes, requires precise loading, and must arrive without damage.

ONS Logistics has a dedicated heavy cargo division. Our team coordinates engineering surveys, route planning for ODC (Over-Dimensional Cargo), crane hire at origin and destination, flat-rack and open-top container bookings, and customs documentation for capital goods exports.

02

End-to-End Project Cargo Services

ODC Transport:: Road permits, escort vehicles, and route surveys for over-dimensional machinery from factory to port.

Flat Rack & Open Top Containers:: Specialised container types for equipment that cannot be dismantled or loaded conventionally.

Break Bulk Shipping:: For extremely large machinery, break bulk vessel bookings via major Indian ports.

Pre-Shipment Inspection Coordination:: Liaison with third-party inspectors and buyer representatives for machine testing and acceptance before dispatch.

Installation Site Delivery:: Delivery coordination to end-user sites in the destination country via our global agent network.

Marine Cargo Insurance:: Comprehensive all-risk coverage for high-value machinery in transit.

03

India's Machinery Export Opportunity

India's engineering goods exports — which include industrial machinery — exceeded $100 billion in recent years, making this one of the country's fastest-growing export categories. Punjab and the surrounding NCR region are significant producers of agricultural machinery, textile equipment, and precision engineering goods.

ONS Logistics supports manufacturers looking to enter new export markets by providing end-to-end logistics visibility, buyer-country compliance advice, and competitive freight rates on major trade lanes to Africa, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Europe.

Frequently Asked Questions

Your Industrial Machinery Logistics Questions, Answered

Everything you need to know before partnering with ONS Logistics for your industry's freight needs.

ODC (Over-Dimensional Cargo) refers to shipments that exceed standard road transport dimensions in height, width, or length. Moving ODC requires advance route surveys, police escort, special permits from NHAI/State Highway Authority, and low-bed or multi-axle trailers. ONS Logistics manages this entire process.

Used machinery exports require a customs valuation certificate, sometimes a chartered engineer's report, and specific documentation to avoid disputes at the port of export and destination customs. Our team ensures the correct valuation method is applied and all paperwork is in order.

Yes. We coordinate with your technical team or third-party engineers for controlled dismantling, mark-and-pack services, and re-assembly instructions that travel with the cargo. Dimensions and weights are surveyed to select the appropriate container or vessel type.

We recommend Institute Cargo Clauses (A) — the broadest marine cargo cover — for high-value machinery. This covers loss and damage from virtually all causes during sea transit. We also advise War & SRCC (Strikes, Riots, Civil Commotion) extensions for certain trade lanes.

For complex project cargo, we recommend starting logistics planning at least 4–6 weeks before the intended ship date. This allows time for ODC permits, pre-booking flat-rack or break-bulk vessel space (which is limited), and coordinating pre-shipment inspection.
